MIT students can sleep anywhere – lawns, wood benches, too small couches. The library that houses my office is a favorite spot. We joke that we should circulate eye masks or get one of those student supplies vending machines and stock it with a variety of sleepy aids.

Unlike the students, I can’t sleep anywhere except a bed (preferably my own) and sometimes the couch. The Ostrich Pillow aims to fix that.

Having worn an eye mask and ear plugs, discovering the power of screwing with my brain’s ability to sense my environment in the process, I can imagine this pillowy contraption working for me. Yeah sure, the wearer looks utterly ridiculous and probably unaware of anything going on around them. That guy better hope no one swaps out his suitcase while he’s sleeping – unwitting drug mule, anyone?
