Another thing I did this weekend: Bemoan the uselessness of the penny. Couldn’t we adjust our pricing, our taxes, our something so we can eliminate small change? Pennies litter my wallet and give me a false sense of actually having money in there, when I usually don’t. They also litter the ground pretty much anyplace you go.
Now this artist Jacqueline Lou Skaggs has a solid idea. In recognizing their uselessness as a money (I have no idea if she actually feels that way) she began using discarded pennies as tiny canvases. I’ve always enjoyed miniatures paintings. The skill to paint at that scale is impressive. She’s combined two mediums in her work – found object art and painting.
