I bought this clock at a flea market a few weeks ago. It didn’t work. I knew it didn’t work but I wanted it anyway. The clock still had its original cord which had frayed through; the cable housing crumbled in my fingers when I pulled it back. So… it needed a new cord. I learned how to re-cord a lamp once. I thought there was a fair chance I could muster through it again.
It took some trial and error. There was nothing to indicate which wire was positive, which negative, and I don’t really know enough to figure it out on my own. It took three tries (there was some fumbling during the second attempt that led to me redoing the wiring the wrong way). Plugging it in after attempt three and seeing the second hand kick to life after a couple disappointed seconds, was the best. The chance to repair an electrical cord doesn’t come up very often, and I only have a few fix-it skills, so I’m going to relish this while it lasts.
Good for you! I like doing fix it up projects–I never fail to learn from them and they usually save me money! Double bonus!
