They weren’t exactly dipped like Easter eggs, but they do resemble one of those holiday eggs. German artists Julius von Bismarck and Julian Charriere are trying to champion the value of the pigeon by capturing and painting them. It’s not exactly a beauty school makeover, though they do look quite striking.
Catching and painting pigeons isn’t something von Birmarck and Charriere do on a regular basis. The project “Some pigeons are more equal than others” was part of the Venice biennial. The pair created a special painting booth (that I hope included ventilators for the birds because I assume an effort to highlight the pigeon as worthy of our esteem does not include poisoning it) and then released them in the city, speckling Venice with brightly colored birds.
I have a number of questions about this project but have not found the answers yet, so we’ll have to suffice with looking at photos.
