Designer Marin Dearie created color strips, reminiscent of my favorite paint sample cards, to show how things in nature, as well as popular culture things we like to make fun of, change in color over time. That first fake tan? It’s never enough. Jersey Shore is a prime example. People get addicted to looking like they’ve spent time in the sun, when all they’ve really done is sit in a windowless office cubicle.
And of course there was poor Michael Jackson, putting himself through so much plastic surgery that the young man in the poster I kissed in 4th grade when Thriller came out no longer looked like the same person.
I enjoy the little fun facts or quips that she finishes each piece with and the color palettes she creates to show the change, which are instantly recognizable.
See more on her website, including the changing shades of Lil Kim’s hair.
