Photo of the Day, August 10th

Like many n0n-sport watchers, the Olympics are an exception for me. Diving, swimming, track & field, gymnastics – the summer games are full of great viewing. And I, like every other American TV viewer, am really annoyed by the coverage. Last night they told us we’d be watching the finish of the decathalon. For us, yes, except that if you didn’t want to know in advance, know any Olympic results without watching them, you’ve had to avoid the news since it began.

This is more my gripe – why is the network so down on  track & field? I remember watching pole vault, shotput and discuss as a kid. Last night, I saw javelin for 10 seconds before they cut back to something else. I saw shotput for an equally short amount of time a few days ago – those guys are huge! But 30 seconds and it was gone. I hear pole vault had a bit more coverage this year, somewhere in the 15 minute range, because of the unexpected results; an American won. I however missed it because I was reading a book.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m still enjoying what I do get to see. I’ll never cease to be amazed by the way people can condition and contort their bodies. I’d just like to see a bit more of the sports we don’t see very often and a bit less of others.

  1. I could not agree more with you lol! I love the Olympics but have put it on as “background” sound while I’m doing something. Love the gymnastics tho! P.S. cool photo with an interesting perspective at the top :)
