Human ingenuity never fails to amaze. Israeli Izhar Gafni was in the bike store one day to buy some parts. Man, bike parts can set you back fast. Gafni had heard about a man who built a canoe out of corrugated cardboard and it occurred to him, if a canoe, why not a bike? If he built his own bike, he wouldn’t need to buy parts. He could make his own.
He consulted with three engineers who all told him – no, you’re crazy, it can’t be done. Then he consulted his wife – well, his wife gave him her opinion even if he didn’t ask. She said “If you’re not going to try it, you’re going to drive yourself crazy, then your going to drive me crazy… so just go ahead and try it.” Naysayers be damned, he used his knowledge of fabrication and heavy machinery, gathered through years of work, and began experimenting. His final product, a completely functional bicycle, is a sight to behold.
Gafni now has a patent pending for his design. The moral of this story? Listen to your wife. Don’t have a wife? Screw the doubters.
