Photo of the Day, July 19th

The rain arrived on schedule yesterday and as promised was accompanied by thunder, lightning. There’s was a bit of a deluge, though we managed to avoid regional flooding. I of course forgot to bring an umbrella but somehow managed to arrive home only slightly damp.

I spent a while on the front porch last night, enjoying the cooler temperatures while my apartment slowly cooled down. One downside to the storm – the traffic light on my corner stopped working. The switch box (or whatever they call it) happens to be located in front of my house, so I was entertained by watching city workers attempt to fix it. First there was a solo guy. He stood in front of it, screwdriver in hand, pondering the situation for a while, occasionally poking here and there. After 15 minutes he drove off. 30 minutes later, a crew of 3 guys arrived. They stood around the box in a semi-circle, pondering the insides much like the previous team of one. They stayed slightly longer and then similarly left without resolution. The light is still out this morning, orange blink on the main road; red blink on the side street. Commuter traffic has not begun yet but when it does, it won’t be pretty. Makes me glad I don’t drive to work.
