Ted Talk – Charlie Todd: The shared experience of absurdity

Charlie Todd is the mind behind Improv Everywhere. They create scenes in public places that are unexpected and often absurd, but these experiences also bring the people who accidentally become involved with the scene by virtue of being in the place where the scene occurs. These scenes are pranks but they also bring the unwitting observers together, creating connections between strangers in a city where that connection is rare.

As Todd says about the groups work – “There is no point and that there doesn’t have to be a point. We don’t need a reason. As long as it’s fun.”

We all need some fun and a random reason to laugh. My personal favorite of their gags is when the ghost busters appear in the NY Public Library on the job.
