My 10 speed lives in the hallway of my apartment. It’s not a very good parking space. After barking my shins on my bike pedals while groping my way to the bathroom at 3am, I decided I needed to find a solution. I looked at so many bike hangers. The clever designs, while attractive, were very expensive; the utilitarian designs didn’t hang the bike the way I wanted and were still fairly expensive. My solution – I left the bike in the hallway. Shins be damned.
Today, I encountered this bike rack solution, devised by Kyle Wilson and got very excited.
Ten speed handlebars are not that difficult to come by since most people don’t like them anymore (did they ever?). My bike still has the old handlebars but that’s as much because of my frugality than my love of the old style. On top of that, the installation is straightforward, looks good and is totally thematic. The placement in the photograph looks cool, but knowing me, I would frequently drop my bike on that cabinet.

I LOVE this! Let me know how it goes. We use a gravity stand that takes up a large, otherwise useless space to store our road bikes in our apartment, courtesy of the lovely Bethanie and Ben Pinkus.
That is such a cool idea. Now I need to find some old handlebars.
Thanks for sharing.
