Small Space, Creative Use

I generally check out the contests for most creative designs of tiny apartments, be it New York, Paris or Tokyo. People have some remarkable ideas for how to use space efficiently and elegantly, and the skills to realize those ideas.

What do you do then, if you’ve bought yourself a penthouse apartment on the 15th floor of an old Mexican building that has an unused elevator shaft? As a person who can afford a penthouse apartment, you hireĀ Guadalajara-based Hernandez Silva Arquitectos who turn your elevator shaft into a bathroom, complete with glass floor.

I have no problem with flying. I can stand on an observatory deck of a tall building and feel fine. As striking as this bathroom design is, I’m not sure I could look through that glass floor and, well, take care of business.

  1. There’s a joke about “scaring the crap outta someone” in there somewhere, I just can’t quite put it together.

If I hadn’t been writing it at 6AM I would have made some pithy joke. I had some threads of thoughts that just wouldn’t materialize but it does seem rife for them
